The Streetsblog calendar kicks off the week with some important community meetings tonight. Get involved with selecting transportation projects for participatory budgeting in Brad Lander's council district, or speak out in support of pedestrian safety on major thoroughfares in Bushwick and Bay Ridge. On Wednesday, Streetsblog Editor-in-Chief Ben Fried moderates a panel at the Old Stone House in Brooklyn about the intersection between art and transportation planning.
Here are some highlights from this week’s livable streets calendar:
- Monday: Help shape which streets and transportation projects get funding through participatory budgeting in District 39, represented by Council Member Brad Lander. 6:30 p.m.
- Also Monday: Brooklyn Community Board 1 will discuss a DOT pedestrian safety plan for Bushwick Avenue and a request from the Greenpoint Renaissance Enterprise Corporation to change the traffic pattern on Maspeth Avenue near Cooper Park. 6:30 p.m.
- More Monday: After lots of work by the community board's transportation committee, a months-long delay, and a proposal from the board chair to scrap its most important parts, a traffic calming plan for Fourth Avenue goes up for a vote at Community Board 10 in Bay Ridge. 7:15 p.m.
- Wednesday: Roland Lewis, President and CEO of the Metropolitan Waterfront Alliance, will speak at a brown bag lunch hosted by the New York Metropolitan Transportation Council about creating a ferry network featuring upland transit improvements, fare integration, and regional service coordination. 12:00 p.m.
- Also Wednesday: After failing to pass resolutions supporting a community-requested traffic calming plan for Morningside Avenue, Manhattan Community Boards 9 and 10 will host a DOT presentation and forum on the road diet proposal. 6:30 p.m. Post updated to include this event.
- More Wednesday: Streetsblog Editor-in-Chief Ben Fried will be moderating a panel of transportation and urban design experts, artists, and curators to discuss how transportation decisions are made, with a specific focus on the role of artists in design and advocacy. 7:00 p.m.
