Scenes From Last Night’s Streets Ball — And a Big Thank You

On behalf of the staff of Streetsblog and Streetfilms, thank you to everyone who came out for last night's Streets Ball to support our work. It's always a thrill and a joy to take a break from the comments section and meet our readers in person. Last night, we packed the Kings County Distillery and raised a healthy dose of funds for media in support of livable streets.

On behalf of the staff of Streetsblog and Streetfilms, thank you to everyone who came out for last night’s Streets Ball to support our work. It’s always a thrill and a joy to take a break from the comments section and meet our readers in person. Last night, we packed the Kings County Distillery and raised a healthy dose of funds for media in support of livable streets.

We honored Transportation Commissioner Janette Sadik-Khan for her transformative work reshaping NYC streets for the 21st Century. The commissioner had a conflict last night and couldn’t make it to the Navy Yard. In her stead we were pleased to welcome Deputy Mayor Howard Wolfson, who steadied the ship when NYC’s livable streets movement ran up against the rocky shores of the NBBL-fueled bikelash in early 2011.

Council Member Danny Dromm, stalwart proponent of play streets, plazas, and smarter surface transportation in Jackson Heights, received our award for Elected Official of the Year. And Community Board 16 Chair Bettie Kollock-Wallace accepted the Neighborhood Activism award for her indispensable advocacy, which brought Brownsville’s first bike lanes to fruition.

If you weren’t able to make it last night but would still like to support Streetsblog and Streetfilms, we’ve got a new way to give: our first online auction. Between now and the end of October, you can bid on these 11 items, including a new commuter bike, top-notch bike accessories, and street signs with a livable streets twist.

Thanks to our generous sponsors and volunteers, and most of all our readers. We couldn’t make Streetsblog and Streetfilms without your contribution.
