This Week: Ask the 19th Precinct About NYPD Street Safety Policy

Precinct community councils are monthly forums for New Yorkers to meet face-to-face with officers at their local police precinct and discuss their concerns. With police going on a seemingly arbitrary cyclist ticket binge while motorists face scant consequences for killing pedestrians, tonight's forum at the 19th precinct on the Upper East Side should be an especially important one for supporters of safer streets to attend.

    • Tonight: Join Transportation Alternatives' East Side Committee at the 19th Precinct's community council meeting to ask them why criminal charges haven't been brought in the traffic killings of Jason King and Laurence Renard while NYPD resources are being spent to crack down on cyclists. 7:00 p.m.
    • Tuesday: Manhattan Community Board 2 hears a presentation from DOT about a redesign of the Jane Street triangle. Also on the agenda: alternate side parking and the transit rider's bill of rights. 6:30 p.m.
    • Friday: Learn about the design of the 7 extension, from technical pedestrian circulation analyses to aesthetic considerations, from a panel at the Center for Architecture. 8:00 a.m.
