DOT has released preliminary station locations for two areas in this year's Citi Bike expansion. The maps will be finalized by June, agency reps told the Brooklyn Community Board 9 transportation committee last night.

DOT announced today that it will adjust the curbside parking rules on Nostrand Avenue in Flatbush, where B44 Select Bus Service launched in November 2013. The agency plans to replace some commercial loading zones with metered parking along the half-mile stretch of Nostrand between Empire Boulevard and Parkside Avenue. DOT says the changes, which merchants asked for, won't lead to more bus lane blocking on the B44 route.

Last night, Transportation Alternatives’ Brooklyn Activist Committee and the Prospect Lefferts Gardens Neighborhood Association hosted a #SlowDownPLG workshop for neighborhood residents to share ideas about walking and biking safety in the neighborhood. Around 35 people attended and worked in small groups to address concerns on five streets: Ocean Avenue, Flatbush Avenue, Rogers Avenue, Nostrand Avenue, and Empire Boulevard.

A federally-funded redesign and reconstruction of two dangerous Empire Boulevard intersections is in jeopardy, running up against a combination of parking politics and gentrification fears.

Dangerous intersections at each end of Empire Boulevard, which stretches east-west across the southern edge of Crown Heights, are set for some major new pedestrian space.

Noah Budnick at TA tweeted this shot yesterday of a new pedestrian wayfinding sign at Flatbush Avenue and Empire Boulevard, between Prospect Park and the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. Unlike traditional maps, where north is up, WalkNYC maps are oriented to the direction the viewer is facing. Initial rollout areas include Chinatown, the Garment District, Herald Square, and Long Island City, and they've started popping up in Crown Heights and Prospect Heights. Forward-facing maps can also be found on most Citi Bike stations.

Charges have yet to be filed after a high-speed hit-and-run crash that killed a pedestrian and injured three others in Prospect Lefferts Gardens last week.
