StreetFilm: Talking Transportation with Bob Kiley

7:25 PM EDT on April 21, 2007

Talking Transportation with Bob Kiley
Produced by Cicala Filmworks
Running Time: 13 minutes 7 seconds

The debate over congestion pricing has been heating up in advance of Mayor Bloomberg's big Earth Day speech tomorrow. What better time to get some talking points on the matter from Bob Kiley, who served as the Commissioner of Transport for London from 2001 to 2006? (Kiley was also chairman and CEO of New York's MTA from 1983 to 1990.)

Thanks to Cicala Filmworks, you can hear Kiley's views for yourself. Cicala provided StreetFilms with the raw interview footage they shot of Kiley for "Contested Streets," their film about taking back the streets of New York from the automobile. We went in and excerpted some great sound bites -- about congestion pricing, what's going on in London, and how it all relates to New York City. (Among other things, Kiley says that thanks to congestion pricing, "Congestion is down [in London]...which is a boon to those who must drive.") Listen, and maybe you can elevate the debate at the water cooler next week.
