The latest streets and transportation news from Streetsblog NYC.
After two recent fatal crashes on the Central Park drives, Streetsblog decided to take a deeper look at the park, the people who use it and how city officials can better ensure their safe coexistence.
On Tuesday, our reporters will fan out across the park — from morning group cycling rides to off-leash dog hours, from 59th Street to 110th Street — to hear directly from park goers and see for ourselves whether the park really is “in crisis.”
Follow along on our liveblog and our Instagram, where we’ll post updates throughout the day with original reporting from the park.
Expect to hear from walkers, joggers, cyclists, pedicab drivers, horse carriage operators, tourists, locals, cops — and more!
And check out our latest Central Park Week coverage:
President Trump sort of inadvertently made an argument for banning horse carriages from Central Park on Thursday when he critiicized the City Council’s 40-7-2 vote to end the Central Park horse carriage industry with an ill-conceived analogy to cars.
The city’s much-anticipated program to require speed-limiting devices inside the cars of repeatedly reckless drivers will launch next year, though questions remain.
