It's Presidents Day, so let's think about our one-term presidents. Plus all the other weekend headlines.

The money is ready and waiting. Yet only one transit project has received funding this fiscal year, putting more than a dozen others in jeopardy.

Democrats in the Senate have a lot of leverage in this process. But if party leaders don't even try to drive a hard bargain, their constituents will lose.

The fact that any momentum for Trump's infrastructure plan has completely dissipated is good news for cities and the climate. All signs were pointing to a sprawl-inducing disaster.

The Trump administration's fiscal year 2018 budget, released yesterday, includes severe cuts to federal transit funding. Amid this looming austerity, Trump wants to insert his infrastructure plan, which calls for $800 billion in private financing suited for building toll roads (if they're profitable) but not transit infrastructure. Next stop: Congress, which will consider the president's proposal before it passes a budget over the summer.

Eight years in the making, the project was undone by suburban opposition. Now, transit advocates in Michigan's capital are figuring out what can be done to improve transit while their opponents take a victory lap.
