Help your kids learn a life-long skill this back-to-school season! Parents can bring their children and their bikes and helmets to these free, fun events, and they'll be amazed at how easily their children learn how to ride a two-wheeler. This course is recommended for ages 5 and up.

The sixth annual international conference of the Association for the Study of Peak Oil & Gas (ASPO) comes at a time of increasing concern over the security of our oil supplies with the fear that after a century and a half of growth the industry is facing what is known as ‘peak oil’, the point at which the production of petroleum reaches a maximum before entering terminal decline.

The New York Metropolitan Transportation Council (NYMTC) is pleased to announce the availability of the draft 2008-2012 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) and the accompanying Air Quality Conformity Determination. NYMTC is a regional council of governments and transportation providers that serves as the Metropolitan Planning Organization for New York City, suburban Long Island and the lower Hudson Valley. In the Spring, the three sub-regional Transportation Coordinating Committees approved their draft project listings. These listings along with the accompanying conformity determination are compiled into a prioritized five-year capital program outlining $35 billion dollars worth of transportation improvements scheduled to receive Federal funding over the next five-year period 2008 to 2012. After the comment period, the Council will meet, endorse and submit both products to New York State Department of Transportation and the Federal agencies for the approval of funding investments as noted.

Join Transportation Alternatives and local advocates as they celebrate the new car-free hours. Join us for an after-work snack as they reach out to park-goers about the new car-free hours, and ensure cars respect the new hours.

Join Transportation Alternatives and the Citizens Committee for NYC for a screening of Contested Streets, a one-hour documentary about New York's traffic crisis and how congestion pricing can solve it. They'll be following up with information about transit improvements coming to Staten Island as part of PlaNYC and congestion pricing. It will be a good chance for residents to ask questions of transportation experts on how this plan will affect their daily commutes.

Time's Up's space at 49 E. Houston St. has been sold and they are currently searching for a new space that will allow them to continue our indoor meetings, events, movies and bike workshops.

Join New York City's advocates for cyclists and pedestrians as they spread the word about their important work at their Volunteer Night mailing parties. Activities include stuffing envelopes, folding t-shirts and sending out campaign materials with fellow activists.
