Gets It: Beyoncé Bikes to Barclays

Per her Instagram, Beyoncé biked across the Brooklyn Bridge to her show at the Barclays Center last night.

She’s almost certainly chauffeured most places, but it wouldn’t be the first time Beyoncé has been spotted on two wheels. From a 2009 Billboard interview:

“I also started riding a bike on my days off with others like my assistant and stylist. It’s amazing how I’m able to ride around on a bike. People kind of see it’s me but since I’m on a bike, they think, ‘No, it’s not her.’ And by the time they realize it’s me, I’m already gone. It’s great to do something normal every day. It keeps me grounded.”

That Gelinas column is looking more prescient by the minute.

  • Dying to know what happened in between Tillary Street and Flatbush/Atlantic.

Can you imagine Beyonce playing leapfrog with buses on Adams?

    Beyonce for mayor!

She floated above the traffic as only Beyonce can, obviously.

NYPD: start doing your job. The life you save may be Beyonce’s.

(No aspersion meant towards Ms. Knowles, of course. Not her fault the NYPD would value her safety above other people’s.)

Surely she took Adams Street to Dean, and Dean to the Barclays Center. Not protected bike lanes, but at least Class II all the way.

I thought she lived in Williamsburg :/

I assume she biked the bridge and the bridge only. Staff probably took care of logistics before and after.

Beyonce is beautiful and talented, and biking helps her keep it right!

According to her statement she actually made the entire trip from TriBeCa to the Barclay’s via bicycle. Apparently she really enjoyed herself too. Good on her, yesterday was a beautiful day to ride.

This is obviously a publicity stunt, but the fact that biking is cool enough to be used as a publicity stunt is definitely a step in the right direction.

But are they just early adopters of what will become a more widespread trend? Today on […]
