The latest streets and transportation news from Streetsblog NYC.

Since April 28, when NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch launched her criminal crackdown on e-bike riders who commit regular traffic violations, Streetsblog has been doubling and tripling down on its coverage. We’ve hit every angle — except for getting Tisch on the record to defend a policy that is built on the lie that electric bikes are causing disproportionate danger on our streets.

We had prepped two more stories about her war on bikes — one about how she never informed the Department of Transportation about her crackdown, and another about how the ticketing blitz has led to a 4,000-percent increase in criminal summonses — when Tisch broke her silence in a NY Post op-ed.

That sent us back to the newsroom to fact-check the piece, which is our lead story for this newsletter. But remember our new motto: “Streetsblog: Your Source For Every Last Detail of Jessie Tisch’s War on Bikes.” (OK, it’s a bit clunky…)
