DOT and the MTA have released the plan for Select Bus Service on the Q44 linking Jamaica, Flushing, and the Bronx, which serves 44,000 passengers daily. The areas that need bus lanes most -- downtown Jamaica and Flushing -- are in line to get them, but not the rest of the route.

No Felony Charge From Queens DA for Repeat Reckless Driver Who Hit Senior
Queens District Attorney Richard Brown agreed to drop felony charges against an unlicensed and allegedly impaired driver who ran over a senior and tried to flee the scene. Brown allowed the motorist to plead to a misdemeanor.

DOT Scraps Bus Lanes in Kew Gardens Hills for Flushing-Jamaica SBS
This afternoon, the City Council overwhelmingly passed a bill that requires DOT to work with the MTA on a citywide Bus Rapid Transit plan to be updated every two years. The vote came a day after DOT told bus lane opponents in eastern Queens that it will water down a Select Bus Service proposal in their neighborhood.

Queens Boulevard Safety Plan Has First Encounter With a Community Board
Skepticism from the Community Board 2 transportation committee toward DOT's proposed changes for Queens Boulevard wore off over the course of a meeting last night, as board members learned more about the project for 1.3 miles of safety improvements [PDF]. DOT will return to the committee again after tweaking the plan, which appears to be on track to receive CB 2's backing by June, in time to put changes on the ground this summer.
