NYPD Crash Investigations

The driver responsible for the June 22 collision has still not been identified, and NYPD told the victim he may never be apprehended.

NYPD has no plans to reform the way it releases information on traffic crashes, despite the department's terrible track record of falsely blaming victims for their own deaths.

NYPD cited no evidence that the deceased victim caused the crash, but that didn't stop the department from telling the media he ran a red light.

A hit-and-run driver killed a man cycling in Bushwick early Friday morning, and a yellow cab driver killed an elderly man walking in Greenwich Village last night. NYPD blamed the victim in both cases.

NYPD has not responded to a Streetsblog freedom of information request for files related to a crash that killed a teenage jogger in Staten Island. Jenna Daniels, 15, was struck on the afternoon of November 15, 2014, by the driver of a pickup truck making a left turn from Hylan Boulevard onto Bayview Avenue in Prince’s Bay. NYPD never revealed the identity of the driver, and would not disclose how he was penalized for failing to exercise due care.

NYPD blamed Jack Koval for his own death, and the DA didn't charge the off-duty NYPD officer who killed him. But after hearing from a witness the Kovals tracked down on their own, a DMV judge found the driver at fault.
