Congestion Commission Recommendation: First Look
Streetsblog has gotten hold of the Traffic Congestion Mitigation Commission recommendation, which should be voted on this hour. According to the version we have (pdf), the commission's alternative to Mayor Bloomberg's plan is expected to exceed the 6.3% VMT reduction required by the federal government, and raise an estimated $491 million per year for mass transit. The Times has been running a series this month, called Next Stop, about the experience of commuting in the New York metro region. Reporter Billie Cohen took a different route to or from Manhattan every weekday, riding all manner of buses, trains, and subways. No bike commutes so far (and with just a few days left in the series it's probably safe to assume there won't be any).

Whoa: NYPD Ticketing Bus Lane Violators
Streetsblog tipster Colin Poellot sent in this photo and reports that the NYPD was cracking down on cars in the new Broadway bus lane south of Houston Street on Monday. Poellot says there were three to five officers waving over and ticketing drivers over the course of several hours.
