The big change in DOT's plan is a two-way section of bike lane protected by a concrete barrier on Park Row, plus a short contraflow lane on Spruce Street. It's not a lot of bike lane mileage, but it's a key link in the network that will be dramatically improved.

Brooklyn CB Committee OKs Franklin Ave Bike Lane Shelved Since 2014
The transportation committee of Brooklyn Community Board 9 last night endorsed DOT’s plan to put a bike lane on Franklin Avenue between Eastern Parkway and Empire Boulevard. Previously, DOT had installed a bike lane north of the parkway in 2014, but backed off the segment south of Eastern Parkway when CB 9 opposed it.

Eyes on the Street: Time to Upgrade the 9th Street Bike Lane
This morning, Doug Gordon, a.k.a. Brooklyn Spoke, tweeted this photo of westbound Ninth Street between Sixth and Fifth avenues. Drivers routinely take over the bike lane here and force cyclists into traffic. It's a scene that Mayor de Blasio must see on a regular basis.

DOT Proposes Painted Bike Lanes, Not Protection, for Amsterdam Above 110th
DOT plans to put Amsterdam Avenue north of 110th Street on a road diet. But instead of extending the protected bike lane on Upper West Side north into Morningside Heights, the project calls for painted bike lanes.

Bike Lanes Set for Staten Island’s Van Duzer Corridor After CB Vote Last Night
After eight months of back-and-forth with DOT, Staten Island Community Board 1 voted for bike lanes and traffic-calming along the Van Duzer corridor, which has become overrun by drivers seeking a shortcut to avoid Bay Street. The project also includes a new type of speed hump that accommodates buses and trucks.

Family of Lauren Davis Asks CB 3 to Support Classon Ave Bike Lane
Davis was biking on Classon in the direction of traffic on the morning of April 15 when a left-turning driver in a Fiat struck and killed her. Her sister Danielle launched an online petition urging community boards 2 and 3 and local council members Laurie Cumbo and Robert Cornegy, Jr. to support a bike lane on Classon, and almost 6,000 people have signed on.
