The latest streets and transportation news from Streetsblog NYC.

Today’s big story is our continued focus on the poor, endangered people of Staten Island, who have to keep a close eye out for NYPD cop James Giovansanti, whose massive RAM truck has been caught speeding through school zones hundreds of times — a driving record so bad that even Mayor Mamdani called it unacceptable.

Of course, Hizzoner declined to take action after Streetsblog’s investigation last week, so we reset the Mamdani-O-Meter back to zero.

We also were disappointed to learn last week that the Department of Transportation has canceled a lot of World Cup watch parties apparently because the NYPD says it can’t staff them — raising the question that no one seems to want to answer: who needs cops at a soccer viewing party on an open street?

Plus, we reported over the weekend that kids are still being struck and injured by car drivers in Williamsburg. Will our story lead to any action? It’s God’s will.

See you tomorrow!
