Brooklyn CB 1 Committee OKs West Street Greenway, Borinquen Place Plans
Last night, Brooklyn Community Board 1's transportation committee voted 3-0 in favor of a preliminary design for the Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway's first capital project on West Street in Greenpoint, and, in a separate 3-0 vote, endorsed pedestrian safety improvements for Borinquen Place in Williamsburg. These projects will bring major improvements for biking and walking on these two North Brooklyn streets.

Monday: Help “Post Plaza” Take Shape Across the Street From Peter Luger
We've got a heads up for an event early next week. There's a public plaza in the works for the triangle where Bedford Avenue meets Broadway in Brooklyn, right by the Williamsburg Bridge. As you can see, there's currently a lake of asphalt occupying some space that could be doing a whole lot more for the neighborhood than it is now.

Cyclist Reported Killed in 90th Precinct in August, “No Criminality Suspected”
Based on NYPD crash data and a report from Gothamist, an unidentified Williamsburg cyclist struck by a driver this summer died from his injuries.

City Receives Federal Funding for Full Nostrand Avenue Select Bus Route
The first Select Bus Service route in Brooklyn is on track to start speeding bus trips next year, after Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood and NYC Transportation Commissioner Janette Sadik-Khan announced yesterday afternoon that the project has secured a $28 million federal grant.

No Charges for Drivers Who Killed Seniors in Manhattan and Brooklyn
Two seniors have been killed by motorists in Manhattan and Brooklyn since Saturday. Both crashes were apparently precipitated by careless driving or negligence, according to reports, and both drivers were exonerated by NYPD.

If you live in North Brooklyn and you're excited about the impending arrival of bike-share, you don't want to miss the Community Board 1 meeting tomorrow evening. Two Drivers Struck and Killed Man in Williamsburg This Morning
The Post is reporting that a Williamsburg man was killed this morning as he crossed Borinquen Place near Keap Street. The victim, 57-year-old Lepoldo Hernandez, was walking to meet a friend to carpool to work when he was struck by two drivers in succession. The first driver was traveling eastbound, and the second driver struck Hernandez as he lay in the street.
