DOT Shows Its Plan to Get the Reconstruction of Fourth Avenue Right
Fourth Avenue is far and away the most viable potential bike route linking Bay Ridge, Sunset Park, and Park Slope, but it's still scary to ride on, with no designated space for cycling. At 4.5 miles long, a protected bike lane would make the reconstructed Fourth Avenue one of the most important two-way streets for bicycle travel in the city, connecting dense residential neighborhoods to jobs and schools.

Queens Boulevard Safety Overhaul in Rego Park Clears Community Board 6 Committee
Last night, the public got a look at the next phase of DOT's Queens Boulevard redesign, which will extend protected bike lanes, pedestrian safety improvements, and traffic calming treatments through Rego Park to Yellowstone Boulevard. The project got a thumbs up from the Queens Community Board 6 transportation committee in a 7 to 3 vote.

A Plea for DOT to Design Bike Lanes With Safer Intersections
On Tuesday, the transportation committee of Manhattan Community Board 7 unanimously passed a resolution calling on DOT to replace "mixing zone" intersections on protected bike lanes along Columbus Avenue and Amsterdam Avenue with designs that maintain more physical separation between cyclists and motor traffic.
