A fun, short ride down the Grand Concourse celebrating Bike Month and promoting a healthy and environmentally friendly form of transportation.

Imagine the New York metropolitan region with 2 million more people over the next 25 years. That translates into roughly 70 million more tons of goods to be delivered, challenging an already-constrained transportation system. This event will address the key freight issues affecting and affected by the current and forecasted population growth. Recognizing that much of the freight movement within the NYMTC region is driven by the population's need for goods and services, this symposium will lay the foundation for the region's decision-making on freight, while trying to provide a more coherent and consistent voice for freight in this region.

For one day a year -- the first day of summer -- public spaces in all five boroughs will be turned into informal musical stages for all New Yorkers, amateurs and professionals, to perform for friends, neighbors, and passers-by, turning the city into a festival of live music making.

This symposium will gather some of the leading scholars and practitioners in the transportation field for a discussion of the forces shaping the future of urban transportation -- and the strategies for managing transportation systems to address these changes. The event is being held in honor of the contributions of Robert E. Paaswell in honor of his 70th Birthday.
