The latest streets and transportation news from Streetsblog NYC.

The big story today is that Streetsblog is giving Mayor Mamdani a big opportunity to make good on his campaign promise to restore full protections for cyclists on the stretch of Bedford Avenue that Mayor Adams made less safe, thanks to our report that cycling is way up on the protected portion.

We’re waiting with baited breath, especially given that we once again reset our Mamdani Disappointment-O-Meter yesterday because of the mayor’s embrace of lower payouts to victims of car drivers and cheaper auto insurance, which will increase suffering and increase driving.

And speaking of suffering, we also covered a horrific crash yesterday that reminds us all that cyclists and pedestrians are still vulnerable on our city’s streets.

Enjoy the rest of our newsletter. And don’t forget to dress warmly today!
