The latest streets and transportation news from Streetsblog NYC.

TGIF — and welcome to today’s newsletter. Gersh is out for the next week+ so You’re stuck with me writing the newsletter for the time being. Let’s get into today’s stories:

Today’s big news is that the City Council has come to its senses and will NOT call on state legislators to pass an e-bike licensing bill like what exists in New Jersey. Garden State cyclists are having issues amid that rollout, and advocates say that the registration regime, which focuses on low speed e-bikes, has unclear safety benefits.

Of course, that could all change after the broad September 30 mega-hearing that will take up more than a dozen pending bills.

“Let’s just see what happens at the hearing first,” Council Member Gale Brewer told Streetsblog.

Until Monday,
