The latest streets and transportation news from Streetsblog NYC.

Today’s newsletter is something you might need to set aside until you have time — it’s that jam-packed with news you can use (though some might give you the blues if you choose).

What we’re trying to say is look at this lineup:

1. Sammy Sussman reports on a federal indictment of some of the rogue car dealers that we exposed in Jesse Coburn’s seminal and award-winning “Ghost Tags” series back in 2023. The wheels of justice sometimes grind slowly, but they grind.

2. Albany Bureau Chief Austin C. Jefferson reports that the easy part of Gov. Hochul’s insurance reform package passed yesterday. The hard stuff comes next week.

3. Kevin Duggan button-holed Mayor Mamdani and asked him if he’s support DOT in its effort to make roadways safer and better. He said yes!

4. David Meyer reports on how FDNY firefighters (who work for the city) are bucking Mayor Mamdani and DOT officials (who also work for the city) by continually saying the 31st Street bike lane is a fire hazard when, in fact, it’s a highway for emergency vehicles.

5. Plus our Friday headlines and a Friday video featuring our own editor Gersh Kuntzman doing his “Old Man Vertical” shtick because he hates vertical videos!

Have a great weekend.
