Hundreds of cyclists rode from Williamsburg to Chelsea last night, taking over the roadway from lower Manhattan to 23rd Street, in a memorial ride for 20-year-old Robyn Hightman, a bike courier who this week became the 12th cyclist killed on New York City streets in 2019.

"Efforts to abate crowding and improve the experience for cyclists and pedestrians on the promenade have not been noticeable," a trio of pols wrote.

The DOT offers "murderstrips" instead of protected bike lanes — even though Bay Ridge residents are increasingly open to real safety improvements. How is this Vision Zero?

At a vigil last night, elected officials and street safety advocates paid tribute to Edwin Ajacalon, the 14-year-old from Guatemala who was killed by a teenage driver in Brooklyn Saturday night. Calling Ajacalon an "all-American boy" and "a vital thread in the beautiful tapestry that is New York City," they pressed for street safety improvements and a culture change among drivers after yet another death of a cyclist, the 20th in 2017.
