The IDC is nothing more than a band of narcissists. They use the resources of the Democratic Party to benefit the GOP. It’s appalling that they’re allowed to keep their party affiliation (“protection”) at all.

  • Flakker

They only exist because the mainstream Democrats are incredibly corrupt and incompetent. Not defending the IDC but forcing them back into the fold or primarying them with Democrat party hacks will accomplish nothing. Where were the county parties when this was happening? Where was the state party structure? It’s not all Cuomo’s fault; the Senate Democrats let this happen, because to them (as with the IDC) politics is a lifestyle, not a job.

  • JudenChino

isn’t IDC in of itself the height of corruption though? They accomplish nothing other than giving the Senate to a republican in the bluest state in the US that isn’t California.

  • bolwerk

It’s not at all Cuomo’s fault. Cuomo just exploits it. Establishment Democrats are horrible, but the IDC isn’t a band of renegade reformers. They’re the same hacks, except they think they’re so special that they should have their salad tossed twice.

I don’t want to force them back into the fold. Just let them run as Republikans, caucus with Republikans, and let Republikans finance their campaigns.

  • HamTech87

Please prove to me that Andrea Stewart-Cousins, the leader of the state senate Dems, is corrupt. She first ran against Republican Nick Spano, who later went to prison.

  • Flakker

The proof is that she has not declared total war on every IDC member’s career since the day she assumed the leadership. That is what real parties do: they instill party discipline. What was her message? Some vague crap whining about how unhelpful this latest defection is? Don’t you get it? The IDC won! The same City establishment that let this happen has been doing jack about it.
