I ride past that intersection a lot; it’s pretty awful. I think that’s where I saw an oil truck run a red light. It’s really sad how many drivers treat that area like a free-for-all.

So sad. People drive so quickly and crazily on Delancey — anyone know if any kind of traffic calming measures are in its future?

And to think that Delancey Street was once a pleasant, easily navigable one-lane street with the same width as Stanton or Rivington. Widening it to interstate width has probably contributed to many, many deaths over the years. The city has been catering to motorists for so many decades.

The NYPD is close to declaring this crash a suicide. The victim may have laid down in front of the truck.

    Yes, the NYPD is correct.

I happened to be walking by. I asked a pedestrian what happened. He happened to be the driver. It was on the Bowery, NEAR Delancey, midblock.

He said the guy just walked in front of his truck. He was very upset.
