Is there a way to put ridiculous parking tickets up on the The Weekly Carnage? My cousin got a ticket for double parking while he was CARRYING HIS BLEEDING GIRLFRIEND INTO THE CAR!! She had severed an artery in her hand and was bleeding everywhere, the officer didn’t even care. Ugh. Anybody have any tips on winning an appeal? The best I could find was this iPhone app: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/parking-ticket-pundit-nyc/id355269974?mt=8

If anybody knows if it’s good, I’d appreciate the info.

  • Wow, George, that is a really crass way to promote your app. Who double-parks their own car to help someone with a severed artery? You call 911 and get an ambulance. They’ve got lights and sirens, and they don’t get tickets when they’re transporting patients.

  • george: no and your app sucks.

  • “Officials: Pa. train double-fatal a suicide

Family members and classmates at Interboro Senior High School said 16-year-old Gina Gentile and 15-year-old Vanessa Dorwart were upset about the death of Gentile’s boyfriend. Seventeen-year-old William Bradley was killed by a car while riding his bicycle last month.”

I used to live on the stretch of Broadway in Riverdale where last week’s pedestrian death occurred. The stretch of the road that fronts Van Cortlandt Park is a traffic sewer, with 50mph+ traffic a routine occurrence here. I used to sprint for my life across that road to get from my apartment to the park. South of the 242nd St elevated station, traffic is calmed considerably, but that northern stretch is really sketchy. It was only a matter of time until something like this happened.

  • Gothamist is reporting that the driver of the vehicle that truck Phelan did not have a valid license. This presents an opportunity to make or renew requests to state legislators for relief, in the form of A.5124.

Sample text of letters found here and below:

    Dear Assemblymember Powell:
I am one of your constituents. I am writing to follow up on my letter to you of December 9, 2009, concerning the dangers posed by drivers with suspended licenses who nonetheless drive recklessly, often with deadly results. A copy of that letter is attached.

Unfortunately, it appears that once again a driver with an invalid license has struck and nearly killed a pedestrian. I am referring to the crash on February 21, 2010, involving a city employee, Erinn Phelan. Phelan reportedly lies, brain-dead, in a hospital after being struck while pushing her friend out of the way of a hit-and-run driver. The press reports that the driver has been found, and that her license was suspended at the time of the crash. As noted in my letter of December 9, drivers with suspended licenses are far more likely to hit-and-run than other drivers, for obvious reasons.

I know there are many pressing matters of state government that require your attention, but I do hope you will respond soon to my request that you consider co-sponsoring A.5124.
