Two New Features on Streetsblog

I just wanted to point you to two new features here on Streetsblog.

First, if you want to receive a daily digest of Streetsblog posts via e-mail, enter your address into the little box at the right labeled "Daily e-mail digests." Every morning you will receive the previous day’s postings in your e-mail inbox. Your address won’t be used for anything else.

Second, we’ve got a new Contributions page with all kinds of great new functionality. Here is how to get your stories, photos and tips to Streetsblog:

Wanted: Your Photos of Crummy Transit Conditions

|
Waiting to board the B44 in Brooklyn. Photo: Benjamin Fried Our latest call for photos was inspired by the picture at right, taken by Streetsblog New York’s own Ben Fried. It’s an all too familiar scene — transit riders crammed together, waiting for a bus (or train) that doesn’t come when it’s supposed to (if […]

Car-Free Space Is an Instant Hit on Broadway

|
Here’s the view from 45th Street looking south at about 1 pm today, about 30 minutes after the city Dept. of Transportation closed Broadway to motor vehicle traffic in Midtown. |
This photo comes to us from Bicyclesonly who is uploading photos (of, you guessed it, bicycles only) to Flickr and tagging them "streetsblog." By tagging your photos as such, they will automatically pop up on our newly revamped "Contribute to Streetsblog" page over there in the upper left corner of the screen. You can upload […]

Send Us Your Park(ing) Day Pics!

|
A quick Flickr search for “Park(ing) Day 2011” this afternoon turned up this excellent rug-based parking spot reclamation all the way down under in Adelaide, Australia. So far, nothing from NYC, arguably the birthplace of the Park(ing) Day concept (though the San Francisco partisans will have something to say about that). C’mon, New York, show […]

(Photo: Sarah Goodyear) It’s time for another Streetsblog Network user-generated slide show, this one about families riding transit. A couple of weeks ago, we wrote a post about family-friendly transit that generated quite a bit of response. There […]

This Week: Biking Goes Mainstream; Summer Streets III, Part 2

|
It’s the dog days and community boards are still on vacation. Luckily, the calendar features two more weeks of this to look forward to: The view down Park Avenue last Saturday. Photo: Jeff Prant Thursday: How can NYC make cycling mainstream and integrate it with the city’s transportation system? NYCOT’s Jon Orcutt, Transportation Alternatives’ Caroline […]
