It’s Getting Better All the Time

NYC is Changing
A StreetFilm by Clarence Eckerson Jr.

Running Time: 1 minute 55 seconds

Clarence Eckerson put together a really nice little StreetFilm featuring some of the public space improvements that are now underway in various parts of New York City. He’s got before-and-after shots of 9th Street Bike Lane, DUMBO Pearl Street Piazza, Broadway Bus Bulbs, the Bedford Avenue Parking Swap, and, a personal favorite, the bike rack that sprouted up outside of his own apartment building.

  • Cool little piece.

Excellent foresight to get all the before shots 🙂

Streetfilms: Good Riddance to Wasted Asphalt

Before Streetfilms were called Streetfilms, Clarence Eckerson and Streetsblog Publisher Mark Gorton identified Grand Street, with its expanse of asphalt forcing pedestrians to the margins, as a prime spot for space reclamation. Now home to a conniption-inducing parking-protected bike lane, check out this 2005 vid to see why Grand was due for a livable streets […]

Streetfilms: Curbing Cars in Soho

You’ve got to hand it to Clarence Eckerson. The producer of Streetfilms managed to turn around a video of this morning’s press conference announcing the new Bruce Schaller study of Soho streets (PDF) in less than four hours and it’s a really nice piece of work. My only gripe is that he edited out the […]
