IANAL, so I wonder, why is the crash that killed the MTA bus driver not considered felony murder?

  • Ari_FS

    Bus Real Time. YES!

  • JarekAF

I had the exact same question. Is fleeing not in the course of commiting the felony?

  • Daniel

When you commit a crime in a car it is automatically downgraded: Felony murder becomes manslaughter, manslaughter becomes failure to yield, failure to yield becomes nothing. Simple really.

  • bronislav_malinowski

CB2 killed it last night, btw. Aside from the regular inexplicable whining about 1 or 2 parking spots, they passed everything unanimously.

  • krstrois

Re CB 3 — when I first moved to this neighborhood, and began walking my son to school, strangers on the street would warn us not to stand too close to the street (while on the sidewalk) because people drive their cars like maniacs. This does not sound like the casual street chatter of people who have never see crashes.

  • Ben Kintisch

    Re CB3: tv coverage;
One resident of the neighborhood hadn’t personally seen a crash in the last few years. Does that prove that there is no speeding or crash problem?

Any effort to reach the many people and org’s who submitted the application?

  • Reader

I’ve never seen that resident, so I’m not sure he exists.

  • Ben Kintisch

Right. Or I personally haven’t seen excessive speeding in NYC, so it doesn’t exist in my neighborhood.

  • Ben Kintisch

    Other nonsensical arguments:
Have you heard the car honking in the morning? This will make it worse!

  • Ben Kintisch

    and…
You enlarged the proposed slow zone! Do the people who endorsed the (slightly smaller) slow zone still support the (slightly larger) slow zone? Why did the DOT enlarge the slow zone! It’s so big! Is the slow zone in Boerem Hill this big?

  • Ben Kintisch

    and perhaps most absurdly:
CB3 Member: “Why are we doing something in New York City when the only information you’ve got is from Germany?”
DOT: That information was from London, England.
Same gentleman: England, whatever. You’re telling me they’ve never done this anywhere else and you wanna try it on us???”

  • One of Marty Markowitz’s key criticisms of the PPW bike lane was that because he lived at one end of PPW and hadn’t observed any speeding, there was no need for it.

This is a very common way to dismiss the work of actual professionals.

  • Kevin Love

Nobody in my Bible study group does heroin. So I guess that means nobody anywhere has an addiction problem.

  • Eric McClure

CB3: “We didn’t personally witness any of the 180 or so pedestrians who were killed by drivers last year get run over, so we’re going to sit here on our a**es and do nothing.” Real credit to their community.
