    If you think the Fung Wah violations are anything other than a crackdown waged on behalf of Amtrak and Greyhound, you need to open your eyes. The company is no more or less dangerous than it ever was. It just finally started to impact on the business of other influential transportation companies.

    C) You might be right in this limited way: maybe the other companies thought something to the effect of “Hey, these other bus companies are hurting our business in part because those companies don’t conform with many regulatory requirements, while also illegally capturing massive amounts of on-street space and often driving dangerously on small streets in highly trafficked locations.” (Fung Wah itself probably has the right to necessary permissions to pick up and deposit passengers where it does, but there’s no question that plenty of buses on the radically inexpensive end do not.)

    I think Amtrak is very busy defending itself from a group as dangerous as Fung Wah- Republicans.

    The Advance article has a graf leading with “You can walk over the Golden Gate Bridge, or ride your bike over it: Nothing of the sort is permitted on the Verrazano.” Did it just get added, in reaction to advocates’ complaints? Anyway, it has a link to the petition, so all seems well.

    You’re right: no more or less. They always played fast and loose. There probably *should* be a crackdown on behalf of Amtrak, but I somehow doubt it is happening or will happen.

    Bob McManus (second M is redundant) is every bit the slopebrow I expect from a Post columnist, but he’s right: no sinking money into Penn. Sink the $2B into a trans-Hudson tunnel.

    But if they have to move MSG, here’s a modernist monstrosity with little transportation value to replace: PABT42.

    Thank you Daily News for the excellent editorial supporting speed cameras. In a city where so many people walk, bike and drive through crowded residential areas, safety must trump convenience. Praxis_Sithlord: Perhaps speed cameras might have prevented the accident, perhaps not, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try to make our city safer for all.
    It is shocking to me and many other city residents how in many NYPD precincts more tickets are given for tinted windows than for speeding. Excessive speed is the number one cause of deadly accidents in our city’s streets, and NYPD has shown recently that enforcing the speed limit is simply not a priority.
    Efforts by the Police Union may have temporarily blocked this legislation, but notice how the NYPD Commissioner, the Mayor, the Transportation Commissioner and most of our city council are all on board with this common-sense move to reduce deadly speeding.
    For the safety of me, my family, and my neighbors, I implore Sen. Golden, the PBA, and anyone else who has opposed speed cameras to reconsider their position.
