As a fellow complete streets advocate, I’d like to see less of the term “wheelchair-bound”. A wheelchair isn’t a trap: it’s a tool for mobility and access, like a bicycle or a scooter or legs. Why should we use a term connoting pity or dependence for one legitimate street user and not another (eg, “pedestrian” or “transit user” as opposed to “carless person”, etc) ? Wheelchair users are street users just like pedestrians and bicyclists, and our infrastructure needs to be designed for everyone’s access.
