Project Greenway: Bicycle as Fashion Accessory

This week’s Time Out Magazine cover story asks, "What is New York Style?" Joshua David, co-founder of Friends of the Highline answers,

A bike in the living room, or bedroom, or hall. Not a fancy, $1,000 bike, but a clunker you can lock on the street. All the New Yorkers that I think are stylish ride bikes.

I hope the bike in the picture isn’t Time Out’s idea of a “clunker you can lock in the street.”

That bike is a rare and exotic antique. If I had one, I’d ride it only on dry sunny days, and I’d never let it out of my sight.

But under those conditions, it would be a very nice fashion accessory.

  • Later this year, Electra Bikes is introducing a series of new bikes called the “Amsterdam.” The bikes are modelled upon the classic Dutch city bikes and are very handsome. I can’t wait to see them in NYC!

  • where’d you get that cool photo?
